Default Voting and voter registration

In Memphis the voter registration drive has been taking place with a sense of urgency of late and there is a measure of success. While all this might be applause worthy, at the same time, I find it shameful.

To think it took this country to be in the worst shape its been in overall, in recent memory, to inspire people who should've been breaking their necks to register to vote years ago. Now after 8 yrs of GOP government, the possibility of 4 more to come, and both major parties showcasing the most unorthodox candidates in the history of either, people decide to register. That still doesn't mean these late comers are going to vote, it just means most of them have been suffering long enough to get off their ass and at least register to exercise one of the few inalienable rights accessible to them!

This is just one example of the 11th hour action attitude of human beings. Did it really take all this to motivate a people to take some kind of action with something other than their mouths? While those of us who've been pushing for just such an action for decades are proud to see it taking place, its scary to think that things will have to've gone this far to get some positive reactions on other issues that are just as vital!

CONGRATULATIONS to all of you! And to those of you who haven't, DAMNIT GET OFF YOUR ASS AND GO AND REGISTER TO VOTE AND DON'T LET THIS ELECTION BE YOUR FIRST AND ONLY TIME EITHER!

Be careful folks! Last evening, they were talking about how many people think that they are registered when in fact they aren't actually registered. If you mail in your application and there is a typo or mispelling of your name, wrong drivers license number, etc... they will deny your registration. You can actually go to your county board of election's website to make sure that you are registered.

I just hope and pray that they don't try to use this as a way to deny some blacks the right to vote.
