The importance of being right!
|
|
How important is being right to you? I place great emphasis on it myself. Lets put it this way, I don't go out of my way to be wrong! On those rare occasions when I am, I try to acknowledge the fact, that I was and I try to get right! Many people figure that just ignoring it makes it right.
My wife is right most of the time. On those occasions when she is wrong, I've seldom heard I'm sorry, I apologize, or any other sincere acknowledgement of the grievious error. She just goes right along as if nothing need be said. Do any of you do that?
I'm going to cite 2 most recent examples of what I'm talking about:
Today she had to be in court for speeding, 9 miles over the limit. 1:30 DIV 6. She said "I want to be there early cause its the 1st of the month and its going to be packed." I said "Then go late and avoid the crowd." I've been in similar situations many times, over the years. I'm no expert, but I know how the court system works in TN. Of course there was a disagreement that led to an argument, that led to past garbage, that led to regretful statements, that led to.......you get the point. I told her what to do and how to do it in order to have a nice day, but she was scared and I understand that, but..... It all worked out and I was right of course and she never even mumbled a semblance of an apology. I was being sarcastic about it and of course things went downhill from there. Which led to this posting! (funny how that worked out aint it?)
Some time ago my wife was driving down this beautiful little shady lane in the afternoon. When we stopped at a 4 way stop sign. My wife has a notorious "LEAD FOOT!" A few seconds after we stopped, a corvette pulled up at the intersecting stop sign. We were about to pull off and I told her to WAIT! I just felt that vette was going to roll that stop sign and thats exactly what he did! The wifey blew the horn and scowled at the vette that was long gone by now. She said "BUT IT WAS MY TURN!" I said "Yes it was, but if you'd've pulled out there because it was your turn, probably all of would be dead because ol boy was flying in that nice vette! She said, "But it was still my turn." I said, "Look at it this way. You are right, but at the same time you might've been dead right! Its not that important to me and I hope its not that important to you!" Oh she fussed about that for years and as you can see I still remember it vividly!
How important is being right to you!

I hope that's a rhetorical question, because I know you've participated in and witnessed arguments on BFRU where the person who's wrong never concedes in anyway... other than trying to change the topic!
