Default may the FORCE be with you!

How is it that I'm going to be forced to pay for television come February 2009?

How is it that the government is going to allow the cable industry to invade every american household that subscribes to NATIONALIZED pay per view, hi definition television?

How is it that something that has become as much a part of 98% of the populations lifestyle for the last 50 years is now going to become a luxury item?

The wealth and worth of american families was once measured by not only the presence of a television set, but the number of television sets present in a household. Those with color were considered to be techno savvy and as in step with the times as anyone could be. Is this the revenge of the one eyed monster we've been hearing about for years?

It has often been said, "YOU CAN'T MISS WHAT YOU CAN'T MEASURE." I've never owned, or wanted to own, a cell phone so I don't miss them. I've always had personal access to a phone, so I'd miss that. I've always had personal access to a vehicle, so I'd miss that. I didn't grow up with cable television, so I would NOT miss that. I didn't grow up with plasma, big screens, or hi definition televisions so I would NOT miss that. I didn't grow up with the internet, so I would NOT miss that, for long anyway. Though I find it full of idiocy mostly, I consider it an insult to pay for the access to that even, although I do most of the time.

I'm by no means anti electronic progress, but some things just aren't right! For the government to support the electronic greed and piracy of the cable companies is absolutely immoral. For those elected officials who allowed the very thought of this piracy to be conceived and implemented, with what would appear to be a minimum of protest in the name of those they supposedly represent is ludicrous and abominable.

Did those of you who will be affected by this know about it and approve of it? When you realized this was going to be the reality of your future and your children's future, did you just ACCEPT it as inevitable? Why does this appear to be a permanent liability for the future of those who survive, much like a utility bill, or a housing payment? Sure, I suppose in a callous sense, one has a choice, but the choice is unacceptable, or at least it should be to logical and ethic minded citizens.

This is the RANTS AND RAVES forum isn't it?!

I for one am not thrilled to any extent. But the fact of the matter is that you will still be able to get "free" tv with the converter box. If you get the coupon it will be for a reduced price. Now how well your signal will be remains to be seen.

Admittedly I haven't done all the research into the matter I should've done by now Sparky, but I don't think it will be free at all. Basically because whos going to provide the signal to the converter box in order for the tv to receive it? my guess would be COMCAST, DIRECT, TIME WARNER, etc which equals PAY PER VIEW!

Tell me more about these TV's of yours that you use for over-the-air reception. Do they run on kerosene?

No Tuck, it will be free. But if you still have a t.v. with out the little cable hook up in the back (which I'm sure you do, you know that big magnavox with the turntable under the lid). Yes you will be watching white noise.

Perhaps you should've been on that list of suspects after the last burglary, hmmmmmmm! KWEEN SPARYK, how you say you spell dat?!

Now as to free tv, perhaps rather me telling you how its not going to be, maybe you should tell me how its going to be. (foot patting impatiently) I'm waiting.
