LOS ANGELES - TV One will air live nightly coverage of the Democratic National Convention, followed by "TV One Live: DNC Afterparty," an hour-long show of panel discussions on the issues. The network, however, does not have any plans to cover the Republican side of the presidential race.
"We are not a news organization, we're a television network that's designed to celebrate African-American achievement," TV One President and CEO Johnathan Rodgers told members of the Television Critics Association yesterday. "That's why we're covering this convention.
"If Hillary were the nominee, we would not be covering this year's convention. My audience is 93% black. I serve my audience."
The straightforward convention coverage, starting Aug. 25, will be led by radio talk-show host Joe Madison and CN8 News' principal anchor Arthur Fennell, while "TV One Live: DNC Afterparty" will usher in a slew of politically savvy commentators including TV and radio reporter Jacque Reid; the Rev. Marcia Dyson and her husband, Michael Eric Dyson; TV One commentator Roland Martin; the Rev. Al Sharpton, actor Hill Harper, and comedian Sheryl Underwood.
"Sen. Obama running for President is a huge deal for TV One, as it is for the African-American community," said Rodgers. "It's not normally part of what we would do, but we will be covering the Democratic convention all the time. It's going to be a ceremonial, historical, irreverent and celebratory look at the process and look at Sen. Obama and what this means to the African-American community."
Reid, who will serve as "Afterparty's" main anchor, emphasized that despite the show appearing on an African-American network, it will discuss all aspects of Obama's candidacy, not just the race-related ones.
"There's something for every group," Reid said. "We're not just going to get on the show and talk about black issues. Yes, Barack Obama is the nominee, but there are several issues that black people care about, and the beauty is that there's a black perspective that can be reflected upon any of them."

Bishop, you know white folks ALWAYS have to turn the tables and they’d say, “well, if WE did it…” LOL Would they have a point?
Also, TV ONE said they “serve their audience”. What about the portion of their audience that doesn’t support Obama? Hey, I’m just putting it out there. LOL

Would be like carrying the RNC on BET. Not good business. It's about selling commercial time. All those who don't support Obama already have FOX News. LOL

Of course it is. Its a clear example of reverse racism. But then so was B E T. There is still a faction that respects the need for "CATCH UP." The F C C is one of them. TV ONE and others owe their existence to "AFFIRMATIVE ACTION" and the guilty conscious of the barbarian. If it wasn't allowed in an effort to show some kind of balanced, commuicative programming, they'd still be in court trying to get whoever lays claim to being the first Black anything in the television industry.
Now on the other hand, I'm sure that was not the intent of the producers. As the man stated in the article, theres a target audience that TV ONE is trying to reach. Hes correct, the major networks have access to the candidates of their choice, 24/7. I think it is admirable for TV One to step up and broadcast a major programming plum like this. Of course there will be those who'll cry foul, thats always, thats what makes life worth living. They're the same ones who fought so hard to keep "AMOS & ANDY" out of circulation, thus depriving those cast members of any future revenues and contributed to all the cast members dying broke. Strangely these same anonymous folks didn't raise no hell when "THE P J," or "BOONDOCKS" hit the airwaves. Have you seen Boondocks lately. They throw the N word around like its proper and aint nobody stinkin bout that NOW, to my knowledge.
Sure this is a racist move if you're "HARD CORE," but if you're just human, this is only fair, just and right!
btw, whats wrong with SHERYL UNDERWOOD as the comedienne?

Don't go gettin all huffy, I know this wasn't directed toward me, but YOU KNOW I live for this kind of stuff.
Yes they'd have a point, but the point would be moot! The debt owed Black people could not and will not ever be paid in full. Its nice that someone will agree to a small concession from time to time, but any realist knows, thats about the best you gon git and usually THATS more than was expected. So some of the network execs realize that going tit for tat in a case like this is counterproductive to whatever major plans are in affect, so they'll let it slide and sort of take one for the team, so to speak.
You best believe if its got something to do with GREEN, the BLACK minority peoples money is good too, to the WHITE man.

Strictly speaking, yes it is. It's descrimination based on race. But that's what this network's mission statement is based upon, so it has nothing to do with Obama; it's business as usual for them.

Not a big deal folks. Once they put Sheryl Underwood on there it pretty much lost all credibility. Bunch of Imus/Limbaugh fans crying about a cable channel they don't even watch. LOL
