Default Kid movies

At my church this Sunday we had our back to school rally.Once it was over and the pastor was doing his sermon he brought up a good point about what it is we let our children view and what was used to be rated "R" movies are now downgraded to "PG 13" and so on.While thinking of this I started thinking of movies that should have rated to the next level. One that i could think of right away was "Shrek".What are some movies that should have been rated higher to you?

Why Shrek? The adult humor was over the heads of children... that's one of the reasons that movie was so good for families.

SHREK was not necessarily a movie for kids. I don't recall the rating, but I know a lot of people took their kids because it was a cartoon. SOUTH PARK, BOONDOCKS, the P Js, were cartoons also that were not necessarily for kids because they all dealt with adult situations. Bill Cosby summed it up when his show was constantly losing the ratings war against the SIMPSONS, "How you gon compete against something that can do anything, at anytime?"

Rent CHICKEN RUN, OVER THE HEDGE, or ANTZ if you want pure cartoon entertainment for your kids.

No cartoons are really "meant" for children. They are meant for the adults that bring the children. They keep the jokes "sophisitcated" so that the kids don't get them, but the adults walk away smiling and have the desire to tell their friends to come see the movie.

I can't think of any. In this day and age, it's pretty senseless to try to shelter our kids from the realities of life. They're going to see it anyway, plus you could take the opportunity to teach a valuable and real life lesson (*gasp* too much like work, right?). The very thing you fight against will rise again and again until you face it, which can and most likely will lead to all types of rebellion in the end. I'd rather expose my kids than have someone with an agenda do it.

i understand what you're saying but at the same time i'm not going to put on "scar face"(just an example) just because they might hear this language outside of the house.Yes I'm going to expose my kids to certain realities of life but I'm not going to embrace it in my house.

I know I've mentioned "BOONDOCKS" before, but I think that is an example of what "jls" might be referring to and on the other end, what angeladc and refreshing are talking about. Even in cartoon form how much exposure is overexposed (smile). Kinda be like going to a nudist beach because you'll soon be taking a trip to Europe. Or watching "DEEP THROAT" cause you're thinking about trying oral sex. I know, I know a tad extreme.

Okay, now you've gone to the opposite extreme. I thought we were talking about kid movies here. I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to plant my children in front of a porn flick either. When I say expose, I mean conversationally.

I wouldn't allow the communal marijuana smoking. I wouldn't allow the communal drinking. I wouldn't allow my child to sell marijuana out of my house. I certainly wouldn't turn a blind eye to my child selling crack out of my house, like I didn't know! Not crack, not reefer, not twaat, not bootleg whiskey, I wouldn't allow my kid to work none of it out of my house and then act like I didn't know.
