We all have to define what a "singer" is. Like TUCKER said, I think there are some folks out there who throughout any generation can flat out sing. LUTHER can sing. Time will tell if Alicia Keys will be mentioned in the same class as a LUTHER.

I will say that the "younger"generation has been force fed a lesser version of singing. Too much singing from the throat and not from the soul. More yelling than singing. No harmonizing like the Temptations. Younger generation doesn't have the Phillip Bailey, Eddie Kendricks, Russel Thompkins Jr. high voices. Again, time will tell as it always does. I don't think Keisha Coles will be singing(not that she is now)at age 40. Jill Scott will be. Rhianna won't. MJB might but, I don't care for her.

To each his/her own....

Not that you're wrong, but doesn't this list support what I said for the most part?

That folks tend to like singers from their "generation". Most of your artists (at least of the ones I'm familiar with) that you said you like are from roughly the same generation. I don't see any overlap between your favorites and that of a typical 16 year old kid.

I'm not too sure if Sarah Vaugh and Maysa are in the same generation. Hell, Vaugh and Holliday were singing when RCA Victory was a puupy. BTW, I wasn't the average 16 year old when it came to music. I listen to everything.

True but a typical 16 yr old (where I'm at) is into this rap garbage. lol They dont know good music and real singers. My nephew know the words to every rap song
that plays and looks confused and lost when we throw on someone as simple as Jagged Edge.
I admit to listing more recent singers even though love "old school". I grew up on The Commodores, The OJays, EarthWind&Fire, etc.
and classic rock and roll. I'm an 80s baby
