Get to know the Members thread

Well, it seems like the community here is small but definitely growing, so I thought this would be a good time to start a thread that gives everyone a chance to introduce themselves and get to know each other if they would like. So, with that, I'll start...

I'm a 24 yr old male who lives in Inglewood, California. I'm somewhat active in the black community out here (I vote in the elections and attend all our HOA meetings:)). My wife and I recently married back in May 2005.

I went to school at North Carolina State and Texas A&M and got BS degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics (I know, not exactly degrees known for having a lot of black people). I work for a defense contractor and am working on a MS degree in Computer Science at Univ of Southern California.

I like discussing hot-button issues and I've been known to start trouble and get into debates every now and then (just ask adonis1960

), but I will always treat you with respect! Also, if it wasn't given away by my avatar already, I'm quite the 2Pac fan!

I look forward to getting to know the rest of yall and discussing issues with each other! :wave:

I don't want you to feel dumb so I will respond but in reading your degrees I don't see how you could possibly feel dumb. First I would like to write, congrats on your marriage in May 2005, you're still a newly wed.

You're smart to have gone into Computer Science and bless you on being good in Math. It was my worse subject in school.

I live 200 miles south of Chicago, near Bloomington, Illinois. I am married with one grown son. I have withdrawn from working by way of retirement and now live each day as though I was on vacation. I have a laid back, witty personality. I enjoy art of all types, I paint with acrylics, love to decorate, listen to jazz, read fiction and poetry and watch movies. My days are mostly spent being a domestic goddess but enjoy the occasional day or night with my friends by either entertaining at home or going out.

I wanted to add to my online life which was mostly emailing my friends by getting into an active forum and I have not been disappointed with BlackFolkRUs. There are a lot of fresh topics and responses for a retired woman like myself that will keep me occupied when I have the extra time on the PC. I may be pretty boring because I will probably not get into debates but will add my initial 2 cents to topics of interest and may add a thread or two myself.

Thanks for your reply, Sonsy. That is wonderful that you get to spend each day as if you are on vacation. I hope to one day get to that same position. You enjoy some of the same hobbies as my mother, so I feel like I know you better than I really do.:) I'm sure we can all learn from some of your life experiences, so I'll be looking forward to reading your "2 cents" on whatever issues you decide to join in on!

I'm a 36-year-old husband and father living in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. My degree is in Psychology but, I actually work in I.T. as a Sr. Systems Analyst for a local healthcare company.

I'm a confessed computer "geek" (right now, I have 3 personal computers that I use almost daily). I also enjoy reading about black history and culture. Finally, I am also a talk radio/news junkie.

I look forward to interacting with the people on this board. I am hoping that this becomes a place where adults can come to interact with other adults in a comfortable and respectful environment. So far, the people I've encountered here give me a strong indication that this is a realistic goal.

41 married with two daughters also in Cincinnati. Note to self never argue with JP. ha ha Will give you my opinion like it or not. Love music. Must have it going all the time. Old school funk and jazz. Trying to play the bass. Avid weightlifter since 1978. BTW, I did not vote for for Bush.
