belated intro
|
|
I'm Doug Holloway. I'm a 58 yr old Black activist with nothing to hide. I stumbled on this site by accident one night. I was looking for a site with mature adult topics and conversations. Like JP I am an avid talk radio show listener. Its funny, I never listened to talk radio, or AM for that matter before I was 40. Maybe theres something in the water or something, I don't know. Anyway, I am the father of a 25 yr old son and boy/girl 19 yr old twins. My wife and I have been together over 35 yrs and married over 30. This was the first and apparently only time for both of us. Strangely, I never liked her, but I loved her at first sight. My family, unbeknownst to them, very often provide the humor, pathos, etc, that goes into much of my commentary.
I aint no preacher, but I am a devout Christian (plain old baptist). I have been in recovery for years so I work a program of honesty. I am a published author and I'm always working on "That Great American Novel." I try to concentrate on "solutions rather than causes" and I don't shy away from a debate of substance. I love Black people and I've always placed my allegiance to the furthering of Black issues, many times to my own detriment. Because of my convictions, I write from a nonfiction pov. I have been a civil rights "activist" as long as I can remember. I've interacted with the 'Dreamer" and many other historical Black people. I also have the dubious distinction of being one of those present at his demise. I am a Viet Nam vet, a voting (not just registered) democrat and a BLACK MAN in America. I have many complaints about this country, but I've found through my travels over the years that as Don King says, "This is the greatest country in the world."
But enough about me (smile). I'm glad to be here and although I am a member of others, I find myself returning to this site, not only because it seems live with response time, judging from some of the post dates, but because of the stimulating, intelligent conversation. Allow me reiterate, I was in New Orleans in Oct 05 with J. Jackson & the Rainbow Coalition. I was bitten by a brown recluse spider after being there for 3 wks. I have been recovering from that encounter for the last 7 mos, with no end in sight. So I presently have lots of time to carouse this site and try to contribute to the various forums. I thank you all for making me welcome and from your bios I identify with many of you, huge fan of 2pac myself.
In closing I'd like to say thanks again and I will try to give as good as I get or better.

Hello everyone, I have a bad habit of running in and out of here so bare with me, my 20 month old is on the run
I am a 30 yr AA female, married with a 20 month old little girl. I am orginally from Petaluma, CA (where Polly Klauss was killed and Winnoa Ryder ws raised) but am now living in a small town in AZ. Trying to get used to he area and the people, I have few if any problems with other people, their lifestyles/religion/family life. being a pisces I am very easy going, it takes a lot for me to get upset about things. I want to go back to school but haven't decieded what i want to be when i grow up . But that's fine, I am a SAHM until my daughter is at least in preschool/kindergarden.

having read many of your posts, I'm sure you're right at home. As cc5k said, "better late than never." Your bio is very intriguing and well suited to the diversity of BFRU, as I know it. Must be "Hotter than July" in Az bout this time of year:laugh:? In my limited capacity, I bid you WELCOME.

I am the mother of four, ages 16-23 and one granddaughter...a year old...I'm 40, divorced and loving every moment of it!
I'm also a freelance writer and have completed my first screenplay that is in pre-production as we speak.... and am working on my first stage play, and novel 'Mensouls'...which both will be completed by late 2006/early 2007.
My secular job, as you all know, I'm a PA for a up and coming artist.... it’s cool, but mostly, pays the rent for not...my passion, is my writing, but my love for music is second in command.
So, my job is pretty cool!
I'm funny and love to make ppl laugh, but I'm open and honest so don't ask my opinion if your really don't want it, b/c I will 'keep it real'!
My writings reflect my personality and touch the personal inner souls of individuals, as well as life situation that we face as black men and women, within or outside of our community, families, and relationships.
I love reading/talking about history and, community awareness. I hate discussing politics and am devoted to my faith, which I won't talk about either on the board!
I've had my issues in life, but have resolve them and feel that it is my duty to share my life's experience and educate those who feel a sense of hopelessness in their life. Growth is free and is always my aim!!
My goal is to become the first black women to own a major movie production company. I'm talking about, like Warner Brother and/or Paramount and to produce positive films so that we can see our history of past Kings and Queens on the silverscreen, representing the love & passion we have through stories, that don't always begin or end w/ ghettofied drama.
I've been a member of BMS for a few years, three I think, and have to say I owe a lot to Jaypee and a few others for sharing the knowledge, and often time, encouragement.
I look forward to spending a lil time here, again.... when I can come up for air!!!

Nice to meet you, Thevoice! I was a little saddened to see that you won't be discussing politics or religion on here though.

cc5k: Is that a new title, major player? Don't know why I hadn't been seeing it all the time! In any case, I like it.
The Voice:I am fairly green around here but for what its worth, WELCOME! There are some characters here who will keep you stimulated and riding an intellectual roller coaster! And from some of your postings, you're going to fit in nicely:laugh:! Its nice to have another multi-talented woman on site.

Wow!! You definitely can't judge a thread by its topic.
You guys are very intelligent here and I hope I can fit in. Initially, I'd like to thank you all for a comforting and warm welcome.
I live in The Caribbean. Tell someone that you're going to Belize and all you get is a blank look. Very few people have even heard of it. Well, Belize is situated geographically on the Caribbean coast of Central America. It's not part of another country. It is located just below Mexico, about 200 miles south of Cancun.
Belize is very much it's own country. Different in every aspect, it has it's own food, it's own culture and it's own language, however it is an English speaking country. Yes it is in Central America, but it doesn't quite belong there. It is a third world developing country, but it seems more like rural America in the early 1900's, with a tropical twist. You can't put your finger on it but it is not your typical south of the border country.
Belize is laid back. It is as if you took a step back in time, it is hard to explain. Imagine seeing a horse drawn buggy full of blue eyed blond white people in bib overalls and straw hats or bonnets, sharing the same road in the jungle with a bus load of people rocking to the beat of reggae, that's Belize.
Belize is warm all the time, 70 's to 80's on the coast, 80's to 90's inland. It is very tropical, lush and green, with 60% of the country's still untouched rainforest. Rainfall varies from 40 inches per year in the north to over 150 inches per year in the south. The natural vegetation of the country reflects the varied climates and distinct types of forests. Belize is a place of awesome natural beauty.
I have a pretty good sense of humor. I love to read, write, I love reggae, jazz and light rock...some country smooth blues. WHen it comes to TV...I am a Lifetime Movie Network nut...Health and History channels and of course Discovery. BA in Early Childhood Development...MA in Education.
I am married with 2 son's. One lives here in Belize..the other in Kingwood...an elite subdivision about 18 miles north of Houston, Texas. I am a primary grade teacher. I love my profession.
I love to decorate and entertain at home. Husby is a retired Veteran...does all the cooking.
Swimming is my favourite sport. I live like an American...all the modern conveniences right here in Belize. I took an old English house and remodeled it to date.
I love to receive intelligent correspondance from the outside world via email. I have lived in San Francisco, Nashville, New Jersey...Germany, England and France. I speak spanish...and love Betty Boop.
I visit my son in Kingwood and have spent countless hours in Houston, Texas.
Let me stop...because I can go on and on.
