That's how I feel too. Help those that are in need today. Maybe their ancestors were slaves and maybe (but less likely) they were wealthy. We'll probably never know and that's fine with me.

Again some say "thats alright, thats okay, its time to move on." Where were your voices of reason when we were being fair to the Japanese who were held in internment camps during WWII? Where were your voices of reason when we were being fair to the American Indians who'd been robbed, cheated, murdered and GOD knows what else during the settlement of the country. The Japanese didn't say anything and the Indians said you aint got to murder us, you got to kill us! And yes there is a difference.
Yeah, you're right, I agree with him too, "Its time to move on," for some anyway! Get on out the way. You got bought with that $300 rebate check I'll bet. If you moving on, why'd you cash the check. Yep, values and morals, bought and sold for whatever the amount yours was. LMAO

What are you talking about? What rebate check? And what's it have to do with slavery? Can you explain that for the slow kids in the classroom?

Now for the kids on the back row. Recently the feds sent out checks ranging from $300 and up depending on your filing status. It was said the purpose was to boost the economy or some crap like that. It had something to do with rebates, or advance on anticipated refunds for the 2008 filing season. You mean you didn't get one?

What does pay television (2/09) have to do with the government? Same Same. Those on the back row may never make the connection. (a wink is as good as a nod to a blind horse!)

No, I did not get one. If I had, I would have cashed it... and how would that be "getting bought" as you put it? Would someone be making a statement by not cashing it? Probably no different than the person who intended to cash it, but was careless and lost theirs.

In a related forum, I believe I recall you stating you were opposed to reparations, correct? I consider those checks to be a form of reparations. Perhaps to apologize for fu**ing up the economy the way the present admin has. Now if you're a person who stands on principles and values, as I suspect, wouldn't your code of conduct prevent you from taking money that you feel you're not deserving of? (wink) I suppose Obama sent his back too since you, him and angeladc are of the same mindset. LMAO
(aside) why didn't you or your wife get one? Most working members of society got one unless there were extenuating circumstances. Perhaps they only went to the upright.)

I don't think this type of "reparations" is a good idea, but I don't expect anyone to not cash their check on principal. It's cutting off your nose to spite your face.

My wife and I file a joint tax return. I think there were income restrictions on the rebate check, correct?

I'm not certain, but I think there were minimums, but no maximums.

this is it...The IRS will use the 2007 tax return to determine eligibility and calculate the basic amount of the payment. In most cases, the payment will equal the amount of tax liability on the return with a maximum amount of $600 for individuals ($1,200 for taxpayers who file a joint return) and a minimum of $300 for individuals ($600 for taxpayers who file a joint return).
Even those who have little or no tax liability may qualify for a minimum payment of $300 ($600 if filing a joint return) if their tax return reflects $3,000 or more in qualifying income. For the purpose of the stimulus payments, qualifying income consists of earned income such as wages and net self-employment income as well as Social Security or certain Railroad Retirement benefits and veterans’ disability compensation, pension or survivors’ benefits received from the Department of Veterans Affairs in 2007. However, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) does not count as qualifying income for the stimulus payment.
Low-income workers who have earned income above $3,000 but do not have a regular filing requirement must file a 2007 tax return to receive the minimum stimulus payment. Similarly, Social Security recipients, certain Railroad retirees, and those who receive the veterans’ benefits mentioned above must file a 2007 return in order to notify the IRS of their qualifying income.
The IRS emphasized that people with no filing requirement who turn in a tax return to qualify for the economic stimulus payment will not get a tax bill. People in this category will not owe money because of the stimulus payment.
Additional Payments for Parents and Others with Qualifying Children
Parents and anyone else eligible for a stimulus payment will also receive an additional $300 for each qualifying child. To qualify, a child must be eligible under the Child Tax Credit and have a valid Social Security number.

At $150k adjusted gross income (for joint filers), they begin phasing it out at a rate of 5% of any income beyond that level. By $174k, there is no rebate.
