In Feb, a transvestite, Dewayne Johnson, was arrested and charged with prostitution and disorderly conduct. While being fingerprinted Ms Johnson says one of the officers called to him "Come on Faggot, Sissy, Punk Ho, its your turn." He said he told him his mother named him none of those and he turned his head and refused to respond. At this point 2 officers came over and while one held him down, he was punched repeatedly by the other who had wrapped handcuffs around his fists. Ms Johnson is 6'5" and weighs 245. She said she tried not to fight back as long as she could but when he didn't stop hitting her, she was forced to defend herself, at which point she was MACED.
All this took place in front of several other officers, a nurse, other arrestees and a surveillance camera. Johnson says she begged the nurse to help her after the beating, but she ignored her. All the allegations are backed up by the film shown on the news recently. The story broke because after getting no response from the police department in re to a settlement from Ms Johnson's attorneys, they decided to go public and pursue litigation. The charges against her were eventually and strangely dropped btw.
The two officers have been penalized. One was fired and the other was suspended. I don't think that was nearly enough. Every officer on that film that stood there and witness the conduct of those officers and did nothing needs to be dealt with administratively! That is the only way to restore any kind of confidence in the abilities and concerns for the public of these officers. If 4 guy are in a car and 1 robs a store, they all get charged with something, or don't they. The law of the public is also the law of the police. I'd be willing to bet if Ms Johnson were seeming to get the better of her tormentors in that fight, some of those guys would've stepped in and did something!
This is what I've been arguing with some of you all the time. People have to be held accountable for doing their jobs. We can't keep turning a blind eye, or saying "Thats okay," when it isn't!
YA GOTTA STOP COMPROMISING!

Perhaps you were not one of those who said compromise is okay in another forum, I believe the topic was cutting deals. Example: The city jail is a non smoking facility. I asked why isn't the law being enforced? One of the head jailers said if giving inmates cigarettes will keep them calm, then we'll give em cigarettes. I related this story in the forum. I totally disagreed. If you're incarcerated, you lose lots of rights and priviledges, f**kin, smokin, etc. Now turning a blind eye to jail house rape and smoking for the sake of calm is just not right. Hell what about the junkies that get locked down, I guess they should be giving them heroin injections to help them fight the withdrawal symptoms. The bust a small time dealer and cut him a deal if he rolls over on his supplier game is another hunk of bull. Police posing as prostitutes and bustin johns is another. Hell how you gon commit the crime of entrapment and then bust the person you entrapped. Thats not good investigative police work, thats a con game.
DO WHAT YOU GET PAID TO DO, WHICH IS ENFORCE THE LAW IN THIS CASE AND IT'LL ALL WORK OUT! in this particular case, every SOB on that tape needs to be suspended w'out pay, fined severely, or fired for negligence. Maybe ol boy was gender confused, it don't matter what the police did and didn't do was JUST WRONG! Now, those who disagree are those who felt these actions were appropriate. I don't believe you were one of them, but I don't recall at the moment.

They've either all sold out, or waiting to be bought out. The professionals are mercenaries for the buck. For sale to the highest bidder!

UPDATE:
The 2 officers were fired and the Director of the MPD said this is not typical behavior of Memphis Police Officers. What a joke! The officer who was doing the punching has had 7 complaints of misconduct filed against him since 2004. All of them were dismissed as being unsubstantiated. This story has made national news and Ms/Mr Johnson has been on several morning programs discussing his case.
Presently the police department is concerning itself with the identity of the person who leaked the tape, CAN YOU BELIEVE IT! Woe beunto him once his identity is learned! Members of the SCLC and other watchdog agencies, are demanding that this case be turned over to the FBI for further investigation and well it should be!

This is a sad, crying shame. 2 on 1 with someone who didn't even figh back to start with and they get fired but everyone else that stood around and watched got nothing?!?!? ANd now we're worried about the person who leaked the tape?!?!? Be concerned with the people in your dept, they are the ones doing crap you need to worry about.
