We all have to define what a "singer" is. Like TUCKER said, I think there are some folks out there who throughout any generation can flat out sing. LUTHER can sing. Time will tell if Alicia Keys will be mentioned in the same class as a LUTHER.
I will say that the "younger"generation has been force fed a lesser version of singing. Too much singing from the throat and not from the soul. More yelling than singing. No harmonizing like the Temptations. Younger generation doesn't have the Phillip Bailey, Eddie Kendricks, Russel Thompkins Jr. high voices. Again, time will tell as it always does. I don't think Keisha Coles will be singing(not that she is now)at age 40. Jill Scott will be. Rhianna won't. MJB might but, I don't care for her.
To each his/her own....
